My Statement of Intent

My Statement of Intent

On my posters, I will make sure that they meet the guidelines of the ASA and don’t set out to offend anyone, but however, draws people in to watch the show. On the Poster, there are some hints of violence, especially one which has a hint of blood running down a playing card. However, it is not overly graphic as the figure is also blacked out as a silhouette. There are also strong undertones of gambling present with the theming of Poker and Playing Cards on the posters. However, the show more explores the dangerous nature of it which is why it is shown to be negative on the poster with people concerned, or in danger etc.

In order to be successful with audiences, the posters must draw in people's attention. To draw in people's attention, I have tried to be more creative with the posters using different techniques such as silhouettes and different edits, etc. I have also used intertextuality to other Iconic Thriller Posters such as Silence of the Lambs (but with a Playing Card instead of a moth highlighting the themes of the show and the importance of the game of poker, as the moth in silence of the lambs, and presenting it as more dangerous) as well as some subtle intertextuality to Jaws’ poster with the lady swimming above the water, however it is a body (silhouette) laying on top of a playing card (instead of water).

The ambiguous/mysterious nature of the poster should hopefully draw in the audience to watch. Whereas the thrilling dangerous plot and theme of the show with the poker and the danger draws in a 16-25 age demographic as they will be enticed by the exciting nature of the danger in the show. Additionally, the intertextual references to older iconic thrillers may draw in an older audience and entice them to watch allowing us to get a Wider audience who are more likely to spread word of mouth about the show drawing more people, and a 16-25 audience in to watch it.
