TV Thriller Poster Analysis

TV Thriller Poster Analysis:

Breaking Bad:

Money and Drugs – relates to crime – typical of thrillers. Darker color scheme – more dramatic – thriller like. Aimed at an older more mature audience – use of drugs, violence etc. The use of lighting makes it seem darker and much more serious adding to the intensity and drama. The font is quite basic but cleverly uses elements of the periodic table to draw in people's attention and show what the main show is actually about. It also helps it stand out and creates a memorable logo. This is more of a Drama type of thriller, so it is shown through the more serious nature of the poster and look of Bryan Cranston. Primarily targeted at an older audience due to the seriousness of the poster, and the serious themes of the show, as well as the recognizability of the cast. Particularly Bryan Cranston who they would have recognized from shows like Malcom in the Middle.

Barry:

Quite a Dark color scheme – allows the red in the title to stand out more. The lighting in the mirror shows it as Brighter which alludes to the funnier and brighter moments of the show. The prop of the gun to suggest crime and violence as well as the tag line talking about a hitman. The font of the title is quite blocky and basic which in a way represents the show and the character of Barry (who becomes known as Barry Block) and is able to catch in people's attention by the boldness and color of it as Red tends to stand out more as it is a more eye catching color. Additionally, Bill Hader is a comedy actor so having him front and Centre draws in the audience and fan base by showing that this is a Dark Comedy/ Thriller type of show that they will enjoy. Additionally, this may haven drawn in more fans who were excited to see him in a more serious role.

Supernatural:

The darker, more sinister lighting shows the elements of thriller/horror that the show has and adds to the overall dark tone and feel of the show. The props on the poster being a gun and a dagger add to the violence/crime ideas of a thriller and help to bring the genre/theme as we know the show isn’t going to necessarily be friendly. The font of the title is also pretty standard but sharp which draws in the audience by catching their eye, with the glow around it also adding to the supernatural aesthetic and feel of the show itself. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are also presented as quite serious on the poster, but they weren’t necessarily known for their serious roles with Jared Padalecki coming from the fame of Gilmore Girls, so this helps draw in their younger teen audience which is who they are targeting. This is presented as a more Supernatural Horror type of Thriller.
